Hi all! Thank you advance for your help.

Upon start-up (I have Windows XP Home Edition), the
Windows 'Welcome' message appears, then my desktop
background appears (no Windows Desktop icons are showing,
just the background photo) and then the system seems to
freeze.

I looked in the Task Manager and startup seems to be
getting held up on an EXE file called MsMon32b.exe. I had
the Blast virus, but cleaned out the virus using the
indicated removal tool by Symantec and I also installed
the patch recommended by Microsoft. I've cleaned other
people's computers with the virus, the same as I did
mine, and didn't have any problems, so I know I did it
right.

Anyway, if I select this MsMon32b.exe program and hit End
Process to end the MSMon32b.exe program from running, the
system seems to finish rebooting fine and I can continue
without problems. I tried to do some research on this
file MsMon32b.exe, but I can't find one single reference
to it using any search engine that I've tried.

Do you have any idea what it is? Is it necessary? I tried
to go to msconfig>>Startup tab and uncheck the program,
so that Windows wouldn't try to run the program at
startup, but when I restarted the computer, sure enough,
the program was there in the Task Manager window trying
to run and Windows was frozen. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much!
Jennifer

This is not a Windows file. Have you done an additional virus scan to be
sure you have no other viruses?

Second, you might want to check the startup tab in MSCONFIG to see if this
is listed and try disabling it there. Go to Start and type msconfig in the
run box and press enter.
