Hi All,
I've been pulling my hair out the past couple of days trying to
resolve a SP4 Installation problem, which I found a lot of people have
also experienced in the newsgroups.
The problem is when SP4 install almost finishes and then stops and
says there was an error and prompts you to back out of the
installation.
The svcpack.log shows the following:
..... Early lines deleted ....
Starting process: C:\WINNT\system32\wzcsetup.exe /i /P
Return Code = 2147942402
DoInstallation:RunInfProcesses for ProcessesToRun Failed
Service Pack 4 Setup encountered an error: An error in updating your
system
has occurred.
Failed Deleting C:\WINNT\system32\msiinst.tmp 2
VerifySize: Unable to verify size: Source = NULL: c:\winnt\oem26.cat
An error in updating your system has occurred.
Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made, or select
'Cancel' to
quit. If you select 'Cancel', your system will be left in a partially
updated state and may not work correctly.
...... Lines related to removing service pack deleted .....
If you run wzcsetup.exe /i /P manually from the commandline you'll
see:
HrInstallNetComponent: for MS_NDISUIO Failed...80070002
Installation of MS_NDISUIO FAILED with 0x80070002
Installation failed in MS_WZCSVC with 0x80070002
From what I've been able to tell this to do with the Wireless Zero
Configuration and NDIS Usermode I/O Protocol.
understanding this is related to networking - I checked the driver
versions of the teamed network cards and found they were old drivers.
I updated the drivers and at the same time made sure no devices in
device manager showed yellow exclamation marks.
Rebooted the server and attempted to install sp4 for the 100th time
(exaggerated) and to my disbelief it worked!
Have a Happy New Year!
