I have a problem getting the Security Center to stay turned on since
uninstalling Norton 2006 and installing Norton 2007. Does anybody have any
ideas? I know how to turn it on - it just wont stay on once the computer has
been shut down.

Yes - get rid of the Norton software. That's the culprit. Go for something
like F-Secure www.f-secure.com which I have changed to.

Norton products tend to mess up Windows Security Center , so the best way is
to get something like ZoneAlarm or CA ( California Associates) product line.
Even Trend Micro does great.
So, get rid of Norton and give a shot to one of these programs.

Dear Lady: Please tell me how to turn on the security center. Looked at
other posts asking this same question and everyone just says do not use
norton. Well I do not useNorton I am now using Avira and suddenly my center
is not working and I cannot find info on how to turn it on. When I go to it
from control panel it just says not on...thanks

Windows Security Center is wscui.cpl

Start | Run | Type: wscui.cpl | Click OK

You may need to set the Security Center service to Automatic and start it.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Security Center |
Set the startup type to Automatic | Click Apply |
Click the Start button | When the service starts, click OK |
Close Services

I have the Security Center service disabled and wscui.cpl still opens.

thanks wes for the input. this is one of very few posts that takes the time
to read a problem before jumping in to give resolutions to it.
Unfortunately, it did not work and I assume it is because there are further
problems that I am not aware of. When I followed to the services and
scrolled down, there is no security center to choose. Also when I run
wscui.cpl the windows picture and fax viewer opens. Perhaps it is time to
visit a local repair tech. Thanks for the response again..mrk

Might be a good idea.
