Because I have a firewall with my router, I have decided not to use the
Firewall with XP SP2. I have tried to turn off the "Don't Monitor my
Firewall" but each time Windows does not save my choices and I continue to
receive the notification in my Task Bar that my PC is not protected. Does
anyone know how to fix this so that Windows SP will save my choice(s) and not
annoy me with Pop-up?

A software firewall warns of incoming and outgoing stuff.. you are better
off using a software type than relying solely on the router firewall..

Hi

Have you tried this one:

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way
Security Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.

Frequently asked questions about Windows Security Center

If the "Change the Way Security Center Notifies Me" doesn't stick
when you reboot, or you want to disable the Security Center totally,
you can do the following:

Start/Run --> services.msc

Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set
"Startup type" to Disabled.

I have this same problem. It is monitoring my antivirus and auto updates
which is working fine. The firewall, no matter if I change the way it alerts
me and uncheck the firewall, and tell it i will monitor the firewall myself,
it still goes right back to alerting me everytime my system is rebooted. I
would like to keep the service on to monitor the others, but i want it to
stop alerting me about the firewall!

Any other suggestions?

Hi

howiezows have another way to "fix" this, locking down the permissions
on the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center in
registry.

Take a look here if you still want the Security Center enabled,
and with a setting that survives a reboot:

I'm a bit reluctant to point to this solution to everybody that have
this problem, because locking down permissions on system files and
system registry keys very often comes back to bite you later on in
upgrade situations (and then you have long gone forgot that you did
this change or you fail to see the connection).
