How does one turn off the noise that Windows makes when it starts up and
shuts down. On the volume control screen can mute the sound but mutes all
sounds. I just want the startup and shutdown sounds killed.

Thanks
Robert d.

Open Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds tab, change events
"Exit Windows" and "Start Windows" to "None".

Meaning the Windows logon and logoff sounds? Turning them off can
be done in the Adjust Audio Properties applet by right-clicking on
the loudspeaker in the taskbar. Under sounds, choose Start Windows,
Windows Logon and/or Windows Logoff, highlight and then select what
action is desired. Choose none would kill the sound.
