Windows sound when starting game

When I start Unreal Tournament or Dues Ex I get this humming-sound before the game start. It only happens when I start one of these two games, and I think it might be something related to the compatibility mode in XP. I am however not running the games in compatibility mode, but XP might have changed this. It is of course not a problem, but I'm curios. Anybody have the same sound, or knows what it is?

Hi J,

If that sound is coming from your CD ROM driver it's
"normal". Check and see if that's all it is. :-) Unplug
your speakers to be sure it's not a windows event sound.

Hi Jimmy S

It's clearly a sound comming from the speakers, whatever program's running it. The sound is almost like the "Windows Logoff Sound" just without the variation at the end. (The humming is not a low noise, like from a fan or somthing, but like a person humming loud)

Hi J,

Update or reinstall the sound card driver.

To identify the type of sound card and driver version:
Click Start
Click Run
Type: dxdiag

Once the DirectX Diagnostics utility loads up:
Click the Sound Tab and the info is there.

You can also lower acceleration there before changing
your driver. This sometimes has a positive effect. :-)
