I have just been given a HP Deskjet 870Cxi and have it hooked up to my
PC running Win XP.
The previous owner used it on a Mac and long ago lost whatever Windows
software came with it. This is not a problem for printing as the
relevent HP driver is included in Win XP, but I have been unable to
find (on the HP site or googling) any utility which will allow me to
do things like clean the printer heads and tell me how much ink is
left in the catridges.
(I did find things called PrintTool and TopTools on the HP site but
having downloaded them the former told me it had expired, and the link
to the download the latter points at a 404 page.)

Can anyone point me to a place I can download such software?

tia,

mike.

There should be a Services tab. At Start/Settings/Printers, right-click
the printer, and look under Printing Preferences or Properties.

There is no low on ink indicator for the DeskJet 870 except for the visual
indicator on the black cartridge. (Open the lid, look at the green windows
that goes to black as the ink is used.)

that's what i've read hear but it's sadly absent. i've got the
impression that it may appear if i can find the right software.
tried deleting the printer and setting it up again just for the hell
of it but it's still not there.

thanks anyway.

mike.
