We have not been able to use our computer for some time
due to hardware issues, and now that it is repaired, we
were immediately hit with the virus that causes the
computer to shutdown giving the "Remote Procedure Call"
service termination message. I read the suggestion from
Mike Lieser, but Iwhen I atempt to go to "Services.mac",
the Remote Procedure Call is already terminated and I
cannot change the failure actions. Any suggestions? I am
a novice and VERY stumped.

Thanks,
Norm

Do you have internet access with another computer? If you do, download the
xp cleaner and then the patch... Symantec.com has a cleaner and of course
Microsoft.com is offering this patch along with the other 2 zillion patches!
or format and reinstall your os. Hope you have your data backed up.

Greetings --

If you've connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabling a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and/or before
installing the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to have been
infected from any of the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are
constantly broadcasting the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only
takes a few seconds of exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

busy in here aren't you... this (and other important security info) should
be posted as an FAQ on a _daily_ basis... perhaps cross-posted to all the
other "microsoft.public" groups... that should ease your workload
significantly and give you time for answering more questions...

just a little free advice from someone who doesn't have to worry about
viruses and other nasties creeping in all the time.
