Ever since I upgraded to Outlook 2002, I cannot automatically shut-down or
restart my PC (running Windows XP Pro SP1). I need to manually close
Outlook 2002 and only then does it work.

Is there a way to fix that? Sometimes I have 5 or 7 Windows open and it's
a hastle to find the Outlook window, shut it down and then do the rest of
the process...

By trying to shut down Windows with Outlook open, you stand a good
chance of corrupting all of your Outlook data. It's much easier to
shut down Outlook before shutting down Windows than trying to
reconstruct your data.

You will find just what you need if you go to:

http://www.aylott.com.au/software.htm

and download the Windows Utilities (WINUTILS). Look for ENDWIN,
EXIT2DOS, BOOTWIN (reboots the PC) and WLOGOFF (that closes all
programs and logs in as another user). All of these utilities have the
option of closing Outlook before shutting down windows.

Other utilities you will find there include CLOSEALL that shuts down
all (or selected) applications and CLOSEWIN that closes all (or
selected) explorer windows.

Lots of other apps and utilities there you may find useful (eg change
notepad and wordpad defaults, perform cleanup tasks on shutdown, close
programs after a specified time etc).

Cheers!
