A few weeks ago, I settled in front of the PC to watch a streaming
movie. I had left a USB mass storage device plugged into the PC. All
of a sudden I got a blue screen. After removing the device and
rebooting and restoring, I got the situation taken care of and could
use the PC.

But, now every time I boot up, Windows detects new hardware in the USB
mass storage device. I go into Safely Remove Hardware and undo it. I
have even plugged it in, done the Safely Remove Hardware, and then
removed it. I also go into the Device Manager and uninstall it.
Unfortunately, it keeps coming back.

Just now I did a boot disk scan and got the blue screen of death
again. I was able to reboot properly again, but the Windows is still
detecting the device. I have tried shutting down, removing all
peripherals and rebooting. It happens each time.

Thanks for any help.

It could be a bluetooth module that is detected by your system. The
reason you get BSD (Blue Screen of Death) is because the driver
associated with it is not compatible with your system.

It could also be that you installed an updated driver on your system
which happened to be a bogus driver. There are many sites distributing
them and some people will click anything that says "Download" on that
wonderful button.
