I have a small LAN at home, consisting of 5 PC's.
4 run XP (SP1), and the fifth runs Win2k.

They are setup on a Workgroup, and function properly.

There is a problem when accessing network shares. Whenever
I open a share from one of the other computers, it will let
me connect to the computer (list of shared folders
appears), but when I try to access one of those folders,
the window stops responding. I wait 3 minutes. Window still
not responding. Open new explorer window. Access computer.
List of shares appears. Try to open a share. It works, fine.

My question is: Why do my computers (happens on any of the
5 computers, accessing any of the other ones) hang the
first time when accessing network shares?

Thanks in advanc.

its because the windows XP computers are building a list
of shares to put in the "My Network Places" folder... if
you run "gpedit.msc" theres an option under "User
configuration -> Administrative templates -> Desktop, in
that folder theres a option "Do not add shares of
recently opened documents to my network places" set it to
enabled... (note you must logon to all the users on that
machine and set it... as it is per user.)
