We are currently running an all 2000 network with GP
running. However we are soon going to be adding XP
clients and 2003 servers to the mix and I have a
question. If I make my new 2003 server a DC and it is the
GC, will I be able to use the new GPO settings on the
2000 clients. I know the XP clients can take full
advantage, but if the 2000 clients can't, I won't
administer GP from those servers.

Thank you,

You may edit your GPOs using the Win 2003 server, but the W2K computers will
only get GPO settings that are supported by W2K. So if a GPO contains
settings for both W2K and Win 2003, then the W2K computers will only
recognice the W2K settings. This is because it is the application (in this
case the Windows operating system) that must know about a policy and act
accordingly.
