Windows Server 2000 keeps deleting folders/files

We have had a couple of instances when entire folders and
contents have mysteriously disappeared from our Windows
2000 server. It doesn't appear to be user error and no
obvious backup jobs were running at the time. The problem
seems to occur randomly, sometimes files will disappear
from the middle of a directory and then everything past
that point is gone as well (everything in directories
before that are intact) but usually during the day during
office hours.

Could this be from a virus?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

HELP!!!!

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. I have had similar errors when
installing a PCI controller card and the data would disappear on reboots but
this was related to the correct settings on the drive itself. Sounds like
your hard drive is crashing. Do you have any folders on your drive called
FOUND.000, FOUND.001, etc??? I would run a scan disk and obviously the
necessary virus/spyware scanners but typically virus's don't delete fodlers
that you have created, they typically go after the OS fodlers and default
folders but this is certainly possible but I would think there would be more
of a consistent behavior if it was a virus. I would replace the drive.
