Windows serious error

Sometimes when I am Working with XP home edition the computer will completely restart and then it will display that windows has recovered from a serious error it also will lose all the files that I was working on does anyone have an idea on what is wrong.

To see the error that is causing the problem, UNcheck the AUTOMATICALLY
RESTART button. Control Panel|SYSTEM|ADVANCED tab|START UP & RECOVERY.
