Windows run time error message

A friend of mine in a distant state both have Windows 2000, and
Earthlink for ISP. He has their DSL service and I have dial-up.

I downloaded Earthlink Toolbar yesterday with no problems. Today I
talked my friend through it and during his download/installation
process he started getting an error message something about "Windows
run time error". He finished the installation process, but now it
seems that he gets this error message everytime he tries to shut down
his IE 6 browser.

Would appreciate help!

Hi,
It sounds like you may already suspect this. ;-) A runtime error when
closing IE is usually caused by another program. The first step would be to
uninstall the Earthlink toolbar.

It may be necessary to disable security programs (antivirus, Spybot
Teatimer, etc.) when installing (not when downloading) the toolbar.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info.!

I tried to make this reply quote 48 hours ago, but it hasn't shown up
yet, so here's a 2nd copy.

Are you intimating that if he un-installs the Earthlink ToolBar, then
re-installs it with the security programs disabled, it might eliminate
this Windows run time error??

That's certainly worth a try. But some toolbars are simply troublesome on
some systems. Toolbars from Yahoo, Google and MSN have (somewhat) similar
features. One of them may work better on this computer.
