I have this same problem as a few others. However, my system was upgraded
from Windows 98SE. When I tried to copy the ntoskrnl.exe file from the cd it
states the file cannot be found. Any ideas to help this problem. Thanks in
advance for your help.

Hi Sam,

You wouldn't copy ntoskrnl.exe from the I386 folder, you would expand it. It
exists as a compressed file ntoskrnl.ex_. The command would be "expand
D:\I386\ntoskrnl.ex_ C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" (assuming "D" is your
CD drive, change it accordingly).

My guess is that your ntoskrnl.exe is present but in a different
partition or in a different installation that you are trying to boot.
Have you been playing with partitions? Stand-alone Partition Magic is a
good thing to have on the shelf for this sort of problem!

Make a boot up floppy with a copy of boot.ini that you can edit on the
floppy. (Format on a WinXP machine, copy ntdetect.com and ntldr along
with boot.ini to the disk. and a little text editor.)
