Hi I spend 8 hours with HP tech support trying to solve a Windows Vista Start
Up Repair problem. We repartitioned the hard drive and tried to reinstall. We
did extensive checks of the memory and hard drive and they seem functional.
Even went into Dos Mode to see if we could create a directory on the hard
drive (and did).

The install fails during the setup process (tried repeatedly).

Does any out there recognize the symptom of "$$$$$" in columns across the
screen during initial boot up with a partially mis-spelled info message
(reading something like "Windows instaling files") give any clue as to what
my problem might be?

I would guess a bad video chip, but that's just a guess. If this is a
new computer I'd just return it under warranty. You shouldn't be having
this kind of torture with a new machine.

Thanks Malke ... I agree...I returned the HP system to Costco this morning...
they were great it was over 6 months old and took it back with no problems.
Now I have to set it up the new box and see what I can resurrect from my
external hard drive.

Thanks again.

You're most welcome. Glad to hear it all worked out. Thanks for taking
the time to post back.
