Jim

This morning I made a bit of mistake and when I opened up
msconfig to try to see what other programs I could free
up, I by mistaked unchecked something and now when
windows xp comes up and then after I type in the password
to log on to windows xp and it's at the main deck top
area, there after when windows is trying to load the
other programs in the backround, I get windows rigistry
files are missing at least three of them and I am not
sure how to fix the problem.

I tryed rechecking every thing in the msconfig thinking
that would fix the problem it didn't, I tryed restoring
the computer thinking maybe that would work and it didn't.

So I don't know what else to do, I do not want to
uninstall windows xp because I upgraded windows me to xp
so that would be a big mess then I would screw everything
up and that's not wroth the trouble and or time to do
this or fix this type of problem.

I know there is a way to have Windows go through and fix
what ever windows problems there is but I forgot how to
do that.

Any great help on this problem would be great and on how
to fix this problem that is.

Thanks for every body help, could you email me if you are
able to help me and only if your able to help me if not
then do not bother thanks again.

Hi Jim,

Perhaps you were thinking of sfc /scannow?

Actually, you would probably benefit more from a repair installation. Follow
these steps to do a repair install which should preserve your data,
settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.
