if anyone is interested, here is a web site with the instructions to install
the windows Recovery Console to the hard disk so that you do not need the os
cd to start it up. just so ya know, u need the os CD to install it.

i have no idea if this will install after vista is on the system or not but
this is a usefull utility. this will make it easier to get rid of vista when
you want to uninstall it. i just suggest installing it before vista is on
your pc. i'm suggesting this because a friend of mine put vista on the main
partition of his pc and now he can't get rid of vista. his recovery CDs
won't work with vista installed.
