Windows reboots when I plug DV through Firewire

Am trying to capture video from my Canon Optura 60 DV camera. I have an HP
Pavilion 754n, Pentium 4 PC with 1Gb ram. I have a AGP Radeon 700 video card
and am using an external audio card, a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. I
recently replaced my hard drive with a 250 Gb Maxtor drive. I therefore had
to reinstall everything. I am using Windows XP Home edition, SP 2, fully up
to date. My Bios is the latest version, my drivers as well. Every time I
plug in my DV through the Firewire drive, it gets detected, XP asks what I
want to do, then Windows shuts down. I tried disabling my on-board audio
controller in the BIOS, enabling it. Had some success when I closed the
external audio card, but the result is still unstable and doesn't work all
the time. What can I do to reliably use my PC and Radeon card and external
audio card?

I guess you updated your video drivers?

I wonder if the following article would offer any ideas:

(885222) Performance of 1394 devices may
decrease after you install Windows XP Service

Otherwise I wonder if it isn't a problem with the firewire card.
Try using your cable and camera on another PC (either a friend or the
computer store)
