Hi Guys,

I just upgraded my machine and it is since giving me some major headaches.

Its on a Asus mobo, running windows xp, 1gb ram, 3 x sata drives, and 2x dvd
writers.

The problem I am having is that I turn the PC on, it loads Windows and takes
me to the desktop and then wihtin seconds decides it wants to reboot. The
cycle repeats itself over and over again. I have tried booting up in safe
mode, last known good, but the symptoms are still there. I cant get even get
to the device manager or anything like that.

Can anyone recommend what the problem could be? Is it a memory issue, or a
power supply issue?

Thanks all.

Upgraded by doing what? If you installed a new motherboard, did you also
do the necessary Repair Install? If not, you should.

Without knowing exactly what you upgraded, I can't be specific. The
problems could be caused by not doing the Repair Install, not
installing new drivers, flaky or mismatched memory, inadequate/failing
power supply, etc. etc. There's just no way to tell from your post.

Hi Malke,

Thanks for your advice.

I basically ripped out my old system and installed it with a new
motherboard, processor, memory, hard drives, graphics card, power supply etc.

Initially when I fired it up the first time I installed Windows xp and some
apps etc. It worked fine without any indication of any problems. Then the day
after I started up the machine and the problem arose whereby it just loaded
up windows, restarted, loaded up, restarted.

I then tried safe mode and it did the same. I then tried to do a XP
reinstall and it took me as far as the "installing drivers" part, with about
34 minutes to go, and just rebooted.

I am trying to work out if this is hard drive, memory or psu related. Also
would a faulty processor cause it to act in this sort of way?

thanks

I'm afraid you're going to have to test all your hardware, then. The
culprit could be any of the components, or even more than one. Strip
the machine down to the board, a plain video card (if not onboard), and
one stick of RAM and start testing.

Good luck,

Malke
