Yesterday, I removed the AWE32 from my wife's PC.
Asus P5A-B with K6-III 400 and 128mgs ram, Ge-Force2 MX, Windows Me.
I installed an SB Live! Value and occasionally it will boot to the blue
"Windows Protection Error".
Reset and re-boot to "Safe Mode"then re-boot, and the PC boots fine.
Any clues?

I think the sound card may be a red herring here. But just in case, remove
the SB Live! and don't replace it with anything. Also uninstall ALL sound
card drivers. If the motherboard has built-in sound make sure that is
disabled in the BIOS.

If you can't get it stable without any sound card and without any sound card
drivers installed, it's probably a weak power supply. Especially if the
windows protection error only comes up the first time you try to
oot. -Dave
