Donna

I currently received a window message on my HP computer,
purchased in August of 2002, the message said to
uninstall Norton Antivirus and then reinstall, which I
did but was unsuccessful, I then contacted Norton and
they helped me through this process. After the uninstall
and installation was successful I went to Live update for
Norton, but the computer shuts down as if it has been
instructed to restart, tried this 4 times.

With further inquiry to Norton I was told to contact HP
and reformat my computer, telling me the problem is with
my computer and not Norton.

This seems a little drastic, is there another route I can
take to solve my problem?

Thanks,
DonnaL

You can reboot tapping the F8 key and selecting Last good known configuration to see if that helps. If it does not you may fix this by doing a windows repair.

Sound to me that your norton is outdated... Which
version are you using ??? Also i myself often reformat
the hard drive just to clean it out of all the junk
that on my computer collect .. If you have a HP computer
then you probably have that preinstall version of
windows right ??? Have you ever reformat your computer???

I do not have a drop down box to choose from, tried to
find Last good known configuration, but could not.

I have norton 2003, and i have never reformated my
computer, and windows was in the computer when I got it.

To get to last good known configuration you have to get there while booting the computer. When your computer first starts booting start tapping the F8 key to the screen comes up. It will be a list of options to choose from. Select Last good known configuration. Something else if you have a HP you will need to call HP and get them to send you the windows cd for your machine. You will need the model number and the windows key code off of the computer case when you call. The number is 1-800-227-8164. This should not cost very much just a few dollars for the cd. This is in case you need to reload your computer in the future. Need any more help just post here.
