windows prob. please help me

somehow my kids erased something and i cant use my cd-roms,they erased them so when i re install them it says windows cannot start hardware device becouse its config. info in registry is incomplete or damaged,how do i fix this?

Try clicking start, all programs, accessories, click on system tools, then
click on system restore. When prompted, restore to a time before the
computer developed the cd problem.
