Not sure if I am even in the right topic for this, but I resently ran
into a problem with viewing my photo files. When I click on the files
to open them, nothing happens, I have tried right clicking on the file
and choosing preview, I have checked the file association, and have
also tried making sure that the correct program is chosen with the
"open with" option. Please help.

I am suffering from the same problem, have you found a
solution!?

==================
Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

Please consider that there's a vulnerability associated with the SHIMGVW.DLL.

It is recommended to remove this entry from de registry:

"regsvr32 -u %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll"

To activate it again, write, but you have to know the risk you are taking:
"regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll"

I have this same problem and the dll unregister/reregister procedure is
posted everywhere even though it does nothing for me. The unregister
command just hangs indefinitely. I have a feeling this is related to
the recently discovered MS vulnerability affecting picture and fax
viewer. Nothing seems to work. I did find a virus when I scanned
recently, but just one file was infected (allegedly) which was not an
image file and that has been repaired. Still no dice.

SOMEONE PLZ HELP! This is sooo annoying....

TIA
-Chris

I have a similar problem - Either trying the John Inzer solution of
registering the .dll file OR deregistering the .dll file as suggested here
gives the same error message :-
'LoadLibrary(C:\windows\system32\shimgvw.dll) - failed. The system cannot
find the file specified.' However, looking in the appropriate directory
the file is there (Version 6.0.2900.2180) . Where do I go from here?

Might be a good idea to start a new
thread and post your exact problem.

And...maybe it would help to replace
your copy of shimgvw.dll with a fresh
one.
