Windows PE

Hello, All!
It's a shame MS won't make the PE version freely available. I'd buy a copy
in a flash. I found a program called PE builder to build your version using
XP or 2003. If I created my own version, would it be legal? If so, could I
sell copies (even if only to cover costs of CDs, P & P etc.)?

With best regards, Lindsay. E-mail: (e-mail address removed)

If you start programming from scratch and do not use any
of Microsofts components then yes you could sell it.

Other wise ?? Cellmate to Martha Stewart??

Lindsay,

PE Builder (BartPE) is a third party tool kit that produces a bootable CD
using either files from Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server
2003.
Since to do this you need to have these files you cannot build BartPE CDs
and sell them as you will be selling illegal and unlicensed copies of
Windows.

The supplier themselves has addressed many of the legal questions at
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#legal

Windows PE is NOT a true operating system for general use. MS has made it
so as to help OEM system builder to "push out" large quantities of Windows
XP/Windows 2003 Servers with the software pre-installed.

Mike, I was wondering. Is selling or giving away copies of these CDs
without any product key in violation of the license agreement? I always
thought that the CDs and the licenses were separate.

Hello, hermes!
This is my point. I own a copy of XP. I'm just thinking of selling the CD's.
There are places on the internet to download an ISO of their version of PE
(free of charge) so you can burn to CD. Are they allowed to do this?

Hi Lindsay. I wish I could answer your question, but I really don't know
the answer. I simply asked what I felt was a similar relevant question in
this thread. Don't get me wrong, I am an advocate for non-commercial fair
use in the privacy of my own home, but this does not give me knowledge of
OEM or commercial licensing, etc. So I would be loathed to misguide you.
Good luck in seeking your answer though. :)

You may not redistribute Microsoft copyright files without permission.
So selling these CDs is not legal.
