Hello

I do not know the password for my brother's labtop, nor can I seem to access
it via administrator as I don't know the password for that, what are my
options to unlock the labtop. He passed away.

A way would be to remove the drive from the laptop. Install the drive in a
2.5 inch drive USB enclosure.
Connect the drive to a USB port on your computer.
Take ownership of all files.
Then you can do with them as you wish.

thanks, that is one option, though pretty drastic, microsoft say you either
need a password reset disk (I assume this would have to made by the owner at
the time on creating password) or need to login as administartor, which I
already tried but don't know the password as well.

It isn't all that drastic. You just take the drive to another computer
where you can deal with whatever problems there are.

Knoppix is suppose to be able to clear a password because it ignores all
permission settings. However, I could not get the thing to work (probably
my fault though).

By the time you go through all of the trouble with the other ways to get the
job done, you will find that the method I suggested is the quickest.
