Outgoing mail failed, it was working for the last month with no issues.
Today it failed. The failure messages are below. I have done all the basic
troubleshooting to confirm outgoing server, and email scans..etc...none has
worked….
please help, thanks
Don

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was ''(e-mail address removed)''.
Subject 'B-sitters', Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server:
'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.2 unknown
host or domain: '(e-mail address removed)'', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

That's a very peculiar error message. Do you get the same error when
sending to different recipients or just to that one recipient?
Which antivirus are you using?

I assume that you are connected to Verizon. Verizon may not allow outgoing
(SMTP) servers other than its own, especially on port 25.

Gary,
I received the same error message for all sent emails. The one below was
my first failure message. Anti-virus: Norton Internet Security 2007. I am a
Verizon subscriber as well, but i have had no problems over the last 5 years,
it is only when I recently purchased a new computer with VISTA.....i have
nothing but problems.
Thanks for your response…..by the way are you Dutch….i think Molen means
“windmill?â€

As an experiment, please uninstall NIS 2007, reboot, then
try sending again.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Yes, I am Dutch, and my last name means 'from the windmill'.
