Something new has come to my attention:

http://beta.windowsonecare.com/prodinfo/Default.aspx
"Are you tired of spending time trying to protect and maintain your
computer? Are you worried that you're still not doing everything you
should to keep it safe and running at optimal performance? If your
answer is "Yes," then Windows OneCare is for you. Windows OneCare is
a comprehensive PC health service that goes beyond security to take
an integrated approach to help protect and care for your computer."

https://beta.windowsonecare.com/betaentry.aspx

"Windows OneCare is a comprehensive PC health service from Microsoft
that helps consumers and small businesses protect and maintain their
PCs. This new service is in beta testing, and we are currently
accepting customer requests for participation."

It seems Microsoft doesn't want to repeat the 20 million beta
testers experience. ;-)

My first reaction is very favorable.

But only from the USA I think.

I've resisted signing up for passport until now. I used the limited
account feature using the dummy passport address. ;-)

I was surprised the survey for the beta momination asked only how
your friends rated your computer experience and not how many years
of computer experience you've had.

Remember vacuum tubes? <bEg>

Well, this will be a premium paid service for US
as I understands it.

Maybe all free support costs to much for MS and
with a beutiful package MS can make money out of this
support, I don´t believe that MS have invented something
new magic with "One Care".

:')

Anonymous Bob used his keyboard to write :
Do you have a link providing more details?

Yep - and that's ok with me. I can pay MS as easily as Symantec.

If there is one thing MS is good at it's the UI although I much
perfer the w2k UI to xp's.

Scroll down a bit and you'll find it.

You sign in with an e-mail address, but you do not have an e-mail
account and cannot receive e-mail at that e-mail address.

However, to complete the survey to become a beta tester, you must
give a valid email address and home address and phone number, age,
sex...you know, all that personal information we're so concerned
about concealing. ;-)

Plun,
At this time, my understanding is that the US only tag is to get it all
going. There will be a need for localization, translation, and currency
changes as that program moves forward.

Thank you Bob.

Hi Ron

It´s a big difference with US and other countrys
about MS support for securituy issues.

In my country it is not free, help yourself or pay except
for SP2 issues.

I believe that No-Charge Support 1-866-PCSAFETY
is a enormous "red account" for MS and they probably
want to decrease all money floating out beacuse of these free call
centers.

Neveretheless this app can be useful and compete with others.
