Windows One Care - Key Features

. Defense against viruses and spyware, as well as
two way firewall protection
. Performance and reliability tools including disk
cleanup, hard drive defragmentation and file repair.
. Backup and restore capabilities to allow users to
automate the backup of their files on to CD or DVD, as
well as the ability to restore saved versions of files
back onto their PC

It seems that we may not have Anti-Spyware separately. Just wild
guess...Instead, we may get it in Windows One Care. However, Microsoft
always delay and delay and we may not see Anti-Spyware until the end of the
year. We may expect Beta 2, Beta 3...RC1, RC2....in the coming months...

We'll get it some other way than One Care--'cause that isn't free.

I'm uncertain what I've heard, I'm afraid. Useful question, since I believe
that antispyware technology will be available without additional cost for
win2k.

It appears that MS is doing an about-face, since not long ago when we were
beta testing Windows Firewall, we were told that only a one-way firewall
is needed.

I think that's not precisely what they've said. Microsoft ISA server
firewall is certainly a "two way" firewall. But it is generally deployed by
folks with the skills to understand its functionality. It just drops stuff
that isn't defined by rules to get out of the LAN.

Can you imagine having that on your home LAN?

I'll be interested in seeing how they handle the issues involved in dealing
with outbound traffic--the state of the art has come a good long ways since
the Windows XP firewall was put into the product. And--this subscription
service comes with human support. So if Aunt Mabel's machine says that
hack0rz pride and joy is trying to connect out, should she allow it--there's
somebody besides me for her to call.

Gary VanderMolen has brought this to us :

Well, now we have a lot of programs including several evil trojans who
wants to
talk to "mum" from any PC.

Now I'm REALLY upset that the public beta for OneCare is U.S. only (I've
heard it suggested that you should just apply anyway!)--cause I want you in
that beta telling us about all the stuff the the firewall isn't alerting us
to as it talks outbound because they are all in Microsoft's pocket.
