Mary

I updated from xp home to vista premium. I thought I was doing a clean
install but noticed there was a "Windows Old" file around 3G's. Is it safe
to delete this? I guess this is the data backup from the Vista update.

I am using 60G out of 111G harddrive. To me this seems like a lot of space
being used for no more than I have. I believe before, xp used around 20 or
so G's. Other then pictures and a little music, not much else is on my
harddrive.

Any comments appreciated.

Hi Mary,

Yes, you did a clean install. The windows.old folder is the remnant of the
XP installation, and you can safely delete it. Vista creates this folder
when there is an existing install to a C:\Windows folder. The old
installation is moved to it, then a new Windows folder is create as part of
setup. This is done to allow the user to recover files from the original
system folders.
