Hello

For historic reasons I need NT4 on this:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-D3SP
Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHz
Corsair 2GB DDR2
nVidia 7300LE
Seagate 250GB SATA-II

Is this at all possible?
So far, after trying install via CD and floppy with both cores enabled, the
install starts and then reboots. With one core disabled, then the install
blue-screens.

If I remember correctly you may need to pull some RAM, NT4's installer
doesn't cope well with more then 1.8GB-2GB of RAM.

Also, make sure the drive controller is in IDE emulation mode, not in a
native AHCI/RAID/SCSI mode.

One other thought, do you need NT4 on the bare metal? If not,
installing NT4 in a virtual machine might be easier.

You'd need to load SATA drivers at the start of the install...
but whether or not they exist for NT4 is the question

Check the cd that came with the mobo.

Otherwise, as suggested, install NT4 in a virtual machine

Thanks for the pointers guys.
I've tried pulling a stick of RAM - no joy.
I'll have a look at the drive control mode next.

Will a virtual machine give me direct access to hardware (in the form of
add-in PCIe cards)?

What about installing NT4 in another (older) machine onto an IDE drive, and
then image that and restore to a SATA partition in the new PC. Does that
stand ANY chance of working?

Everything in a virtual machine is emulated, so you will not have direct
access to PCI-e
cards.
As a matter of fact...even without a virtual machine, since all versions
of
NT
use the HAL, you will not have direct access to any H/W anyway.

If direct access to H/W is needed for whatever it is you plan to do...
might as well just pick up an old P-II somewhere and run dos or win9x on
it.

As to installing NT on another machine
then imaging it over...there is no chance it will work
as it will not have the SATA drivers
plus all the other H/W will be different.

Maybe if you stated your ultimate goal,
someone here can come up with an alternative way for you to achieve it.

Thanks.

We have a customer that has software written that runs under NT4.
The latest hardware that we now supply is PCIe based. It used to be PCI.
If there is only a little chance that we can run NT4 on modern hardware,
then I will have to inform them and they'll need to do a bit of porting.
We have XP drivers for our new hardware, and XP and NT for the old stuff. We
can create NT drivers for the new hardware, but, as yet, cannot test it.
