Hi there,

I've got a problem regarding logging on a Windows 2000 PC.
The PC has been upgraded from Windows NT4.

If I let the PC boot up normally, when I try a network log-
in or Workstation only, the user logs in and then logs out
straight away.

If I do a Safe-Mode (without Network) boot I am able to
log in via Workstation only, but nothing appears in the
Control Panel --> Networks box so that I can't try
reinstalling the client.

Has anyone got any ideas about how I can reslove the
problem so that I can do I normal network log-in?

Many thanks,

Steve.....

This typically happens when hard disks are changed. Before you
change disks, delete any inappropriate or non-existing devices
as per Step 2 below.
1. From dos, copy userinit.exe to all the other hard drives
This should allow you to log in.
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/MountedDevices/:
delete all keys which look like "\DosDevice\<DRIVE_LETTER>:"
3. Point KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/
Winlogon/Userinit to the correct location of userinit.exe

Where exactly did you copy userinit.exe to?

You can also try this: Temporarily install an empty formatted
disk as a slave disk, and copy userinit.exe there too.
