I've got a question for this forum.

Okay, here's the scenario.

A Windows 2000 Professional computer running on a Windows
NT 4 network.

I setup a folder on my local pc (Windows 2000 Pro), and
setup the permissions on that folder to where only my
login could access it.

If I upload that folder to a networked drive, will the
Windows 2000 Professional permissions be overwritten by
the Windows NT 4 permissions?

Please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thanks for all your help.

Do you know if there is an article somewhere on the
Microsoft Knowledge Base that states this?

Thanks for your help.

If this isn't a theoretical question, the best way to test it is to try it.
Knowledge Base Article 323007 gives a method for retaining permissions by
using Xcopy and a series of switches, because using Explorer will make the
copied items inherit permissions from the new parent folder.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323007

There are some exceptions to this method:
*The security settings that are directly assigned to the files and folders
are retained.
*The security settings that are inherited from the source parent folder are
lost.
*The security settings of the destination folders are inherited.
*When you move files or folders to FAT volumes, the folders and files lose
their NTFS permissions because FAT volumes do not support NTFS permissions.

Best bet is to look for a utility called SCOPY. It can be found by
searching on MS web site.
