I recently installed a new hard drive. My Windows is not working the way it
should be (seems to be starting in safe mode but doesnt indicate its starting
in safe mode). I still have my old hard drive. Does anyone know what files
or directories I can copy from my old hard drive to my new hard drive to have
windows working properly?

Thanks.

A fresh install of Win?
You installed mobo chipset and other hw drivers, eg video, from manu sites
or sys cd's? and NOT winupdate.
You can only copy/use data on your old hd, not programs.

I installed a new HD last month. I have been using my old HD as a storage
backup but I still have everything on it from when I installed the new HD.
My windows is all messed up now. What I would like to know is, are there
some directories I can copy over from the old HD to the new HD to get windows
working like it was before. Im not sure what directories are used for
windows and if its possible just to copy over some directories to acheive
this. And also Im not sure about hidden files I might need to copy over or
how to copy over hidden files.

The other alternative is to wipe out everything from the new HD and start
all over which I prefer not to do.

Thanks.

There is a lot more to fixing whatever is wrong with your current OS than
merely copying over folders from one drive to another.

No, that is not the only alternative. Instead, list what is wrong so than
someone might be able to address the issues.
Wiping the drive clean is absolutely the last resort to be used when all
else has failed.

Windows boots up in a mode that looks like the safe mode. The task bar is
white instead of blue. Also when you select start, the display looks like
its in the Safe mode but it does not indicate that its starting in the safe
mode. When I run MSCONFIG, it indicates that its starting in Normal Mode not
safe mode. All this began when I pressed in the power button till the system
shut off. On my other pc there is no problem if I do this but when I did it
with the other pc, thats when the problems started.

Any suggestions?

You still fail to state as to whether you installed your hardware drivers
from the manufacturers sites or cd's

I really dont understand your question. I bought this Dell PC with windows
already installed. I didnt install windows myself.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You installed a new hard drive, as a slave? If so, you configured jumpers
correctly and it is seen in Disk Management and My Computer?

No, I installed the new drive as the master drive, the bootable drive. I
disconnected the original drive. When windows started acting up, I then
reattached the original drive (so I could go online and use the PC) and now
the New drive is a slave. I see both drives when I go into windows explorer.
Since I have both drives now attached I thought there was a simple way to
copy files or directories over from the old drive to the new drive to make
windows back to the way it was.

No you cannot do that, you can only copy data and in some cases certain app
settings

We'll assume your sys is clear of malaware and vrus.
If you check Hardware Devices, any yellow marks shown?

I cannot even view anything under Hardware devices. When I click on device
manager, it opens but nothing shows up. Its blank, empty.
