So my system's almost up and running...except that Windows (XP
Home) will not detect my HDD. Setup detects it, bios detects it,
but Windows when booted from CD will not (upon exiting, I get
"missing operating system" so I know my board sees the hard drive).

New SATA drive, fdisk is the only thing that's been done to it.
I do have a copy of 98 that I can try to see if that detects the
drive...

Did you load the SATA driver when you loaded windows ?

I loaded the VIA driver (I'm not using RAID); I'll try again.
The Promise controller, even though I'm not using it, is trying
to see the drive as well and can't.

There is a Driver even if you are not using Raid Sata 378 is Promise
drivers if you are not using Raid

Be sure to be connected in via slot on M/B and in bios/boot with the via
SATA.

Also when you do make the floppy lable it and keep it where you know where
it is in a month it lost the driver and i had to reinstall it with teh
windows disk.
