Windows not recognizing new floppy disk

When I go to My Computer > 3 1/2" Floppy (A:) and read the directory of a
floppy disk, it gives me the correct information for the first disk I put in.
However, when I replace that disk with a second one and go back to My
Computer > 3 1/2" Floppy (A:) it gives me the directory reading from the
first floppy. The Refresh command from the View menu does nothing.

The same thing happens from the command line using the DIR command.

I have to restart my machine to read the information from the second floppy
disk.

I rarely use my floppy drive, so I'm not sure exactly when this started
happening, but I am needing to search through a number of floppies to find
some old information and don't have the time to be restarting my machine to
search each disk.

First check the cable. You may end up having to replace the
floppy drive. This is a hardware issue. Take a look here for
more details:

Good luck
