"MShome is not accessable. You might not have permissions to access this network resource. Contact the network administrator to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of this workgroup is not available."

first of all I am the network administrator and i should have access :D

I have a 2 computer personal home network with a linksys fast ethernet 4 port smartswitch/router. I've had it set up by "connecting directly or through a network hub" and it used to work.
However, just recently I havent been able to access the network because of the error that you can see above. When I go to reset the automatic network configuration it says that there is an error in the network and that I have to do it manually.
All tcp/ip protocols are set, file and printer sharing is set, both machines are windows xp pro, I have limited port forwarding to my computer for access to battle.net, router's set to dhcp, the network cables were made and tested by me - working perfectly. i did a retest they still work. Im quite confident the network cards work otherwise i wouldnt be sending this in. I've done everything i can think of "manually".
However, i figured out that my moms computer had ICF/ICS on and turned that off, she can see my files now and her own for that matter on the network share, but i am still unable to access the network share and still receive the same old message.
Its not like the settings i have never worked, i must have installed something or deleted something in search for catching the recent virus's i've had.

ANYWAY - please help. If you can figure out what ive done wrong many thanks. The last time i posted on the microsoft newsgroups i got a very hasty reply, thanks a bunch to MS and the rest of you

Ensure that all firewalls are disabled. The XP built-in
firewall should be disabled on local area networks.
Disable or remove other personal firewalls while
troubleshooting.

The basics are that make sure each computer has the
workgroup names and subnet mask is the same on all
computers. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0.
Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all machines.

Here is how I cured the same problem. I could not get my
home network to work correctly with XP until I installed
NETBUI. It is on the install disk, it just does not
install automatically. XP says they do not support it, but
after installing it, my network could see all computers
again. Before installing these files, I was able to access
the internet ok, just not see other computers on my home
network. I am reading your post as the same problem. Hope
this helps you out.

Yes, NetBeui is a unsupported protocol and I suggest try
enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP first. NetBEUI has never
been required in Windows networking and I would try and
use TCP/IP as the only protocol.
