When ever i open windows movie maker it always says:

"Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needsd to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."

and then it tells me to either debug, send error report, or dont send, and
no matter what i click it always closes the program. and when i reopen the
program it comes up again.

A couple possibilities.

First try moving or renaming any projects you have been working on recently
and then try running WMM.
If Movie Maker is set up to automatically load the last project worked on
and
there is a problem with the project then the program could crash while
trying to
load.

If that doesn't do the trick try restoring Windows back to when WMM was
still
working using Windows Restore.

If that doesn't do the trick try reinstalling SP2 over itself from this
site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en
This way you can download and reinstall without uninstalling first.

If that doesn't do the trick then uninstall SP2 and reinstall it via
Microsoft Update.

If THAT doesn't work pout a little bit, punch the computer once or twice,
and
post back for more help.

Try doing as system restore back to when it worked.

How-ever my Projects GO.....I must always re-install my OS after 3-months..My
PC is my Photo LAB..its where all things happen..I have yet too make more
than 4-movies(50-minutes)and NOT re-install XP-Pro..I will not mess with
little FIXES like the SP2 or Filenames or Settings.....4-movies and "Bango"
re-install time.....the rest is history.

hmmm, there's got to be a bigger picture for you then because I have made
hundreds without reinstalling.
In fact I have NEVER had to reinstall XP on this system and I got it long
before SP2 came out.

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

Precisely
I actually recommend on a regular basis either downloading from there or
ordering the free CD from Microsoft.
For one thing reinstalling XP is safer if you can do it and get critical
updates before connecting to the internet.

Nope, it won't harm your laptop at all.
You will need to reinstall all the automatic updates, if any, that are not
included in the SP2 download however.
-Wojo

You won't lose any data but as far as the programs that's impossible to say
with anything you installed AFTER installing SP2.
You may or may not have to reinstall but in all likelyhood you won't.

You tried ALL the methods?
You moved or renamed the projects. Used Windows Restore. Installed SP2 over
itself. Uninstalled then reinstalled SP2.
None of these things worked?
Next thing I would suggest is reregistering the DLL's to see if that works.
Also looking at some other programs and/or codec packs you have installed
that may be causing the problem.
I frequently run Add/Remove programs under Control Panel and just look at
what's installed. Sometimes there's things I no longer use and other times
there's things I didn't want in the first place. Could be a codec (usually
it is Divx if anything) was installed and is causing WMM to crash.

None of this is a sure fire fix but all of them are potential fixes.

I try reinstalling SP2, but it doesnt install. the installer always freezes
up. only the installer, the computer goes a bit slow but still works while
the installer freezes.

Are you installing from the net?

Try downloading the complete file
to your desktop and install it from
there.

Download Windows XP SP2
http://tinyurl.com/6ubys

When you are ready to do the install....
disconnect from the net, close all
programs, and disable your virus
scanner.

Now try installing SP2.

Try uninstalling SP2 first then installing it. If it still stalls during
installation I suspect there are larger problems with XP on your computer.
