Windows Movie Maker Fatal Error

I have used Windows Movie Make without problems several times in the past.
Today I went to use it again. Every time I open it, I get the lovely
dialogue box telling me:

"Windows Movie Maker has encountered a fatal error and needs to shut down."
It goes on to ask if I want to send an error report or not (I'm sure you are
all familiar with these dialogue boxes).

How do I reinstall Windows Movie Maker? More specifically, how do I
uninstall the SP2 so that I can reinstall the whole thing along with Windows
Movie Maker? I am fearful of uninstalling too much, and really screwing up
my operating system (XP).

Help!

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

This worked! I downgraded to IE 6 and am no longer having problems. What an
annoying little bug.

I have the same problem. I automaticly received the update for EI7, since I
have the automatic feature turned on. Does anyone know if Microsoft is
working on a patch to fix this problem. This is very frustrating. I guess
their is some truth to the latest Apple VS Windows advertisments.

I have no info about a patch but I suspect
the issue is being researched.

I finally found out how to fix it with IE7 i just went to movie maker then
went to tools then options and i took off the codec ffdshow cause that was
wat caused theproblem on my movie maker

Thanks for the info! I Checked the options section and and I did not have
the ffdshow codec. I played around by unclicking various boxes, but nothing
seemed to work. I even set it back to the the default, but that did not work
either. Any ideas are appreciated.
