Hi

I have an older system (athlon 700mhz) with 512 megs of ram, 40 gig drive,
and an old 4 meg all in wonder pro.

Now what I want to do is to replace the old all in wonder pro with a newer
one (like an all in wonder with a radeon 7500 that has 32 megs of ram).

I am also gonig to be replacing the mortherboard/cpu with a newer on soon as
well (around a 1.2 ghz duron).

But my main question is will Movie Maker 2 (on windows xp pro which is what
I have) be compatible with the All in WOnder raedon 7500 when it comes to
having windows movie maker directly importing in movies (and not needing to
use the 2 step process of using the ati software to capture the movie from
the card to the computer and then importing that movie into windows movie
maker?

Thanks... I am just looking for a decent budget analog caputuring solution
that is compatible with windows movie maker.

I know it can be heavy on the budget but video editing needs a LOT of speed.

I would try to replace the mobo and CPU with something a little faster than
a Duron.... have you considered a combo package like the ECS K7S5A Pro...
and Athlon XP CPU.... the reason I'm suggesting this board is that it has 2
slots for PC133 RAM and 2 slots for the faster PC2700 RAM.... although you
cannot use both types of RAM, you can at least keep the 512mb you currently
have...

I would also try and go for at least a 64mb All in Wonder card. You'll get
much better results.

I will go ahead and heed your advice and go with the 64 meg all in wonder
card. Is there any alternatives that I might want to consider for analog
capturing? I really don't like the idea of usb analog capture devices, they
just seem to me that they would be too slow.

As for the motherboard/cpu that you recommended, that actually is the exact
motherboard/cpu i have in my main computer. The only reason why I was going
to use the duron for my video editing/dvd burner computer, is because the
chip is going to be given to me and i have a spare aopen ak73-pro (with
onboard firewire) motherboard. So the duron motherboard combo is a free
upgrade to me and it takes the old pc133 memory which is what i have 512
megs worth of. I am not quite sure what the maximam chip that the ak73
board can take, but i beleive at best it could take a low end xp athlon
(like an xp 1600 or so).

Do you think that the duron will be fine for now anyways until i get some
extra money to get an athlon chip for it and are there any other reasonably
priced analog capture devices available?

I have to admit to many failures with analog capture. I have the old ATI
64mb VIVO card.... (nuff said really!)

In fact, rather than drive myself insane, I now transfer analog video to my
digital camcorder and then firewire that in to the PC which never fails! It
may be an extra step, but it sure saves me throwing the PC out of the
window.

If I know there's a TV program I want to edit on the PC, I actually take an
S-Video feed direct from the satellite receiver to the digital camcorder and
then firewire that tape it.... the result is a near perfect result.... which
makes the most amazing DVDs.

You can actually use an Athlon XP 2000+ (Thoroughbred or Palomino) in the
AK73 Pro board, which may be very good news to you:

Athlon XP 2000+ $75 at Frys....
Duron 1.8Ghz $54.99 at Frys.... but its bare so you'd have to add $15 or so
for a fan where as the Athlon is boxed and comes with one!

Whole load of different reviews of capture hardware at

Hope this helps
