and the new emulators. Looks like you can already develop for it.

Hi, Ed.

Do you know if Microsoft is planning an update to Visual Studio.NET 2003
to integrate support for the new WM 2003 SE modes (VGA, Landscape)? Or are
we going to need to wait for VS Whidbey and NET CF 2? Thanks =)

You don't really need to P/Invoke, nor wait for Visual Studio 2005. Take a
look at this article to make use of the new features today:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...ing_orientation_and_resolution_aware_apps.asp.

Hi, Jamie.

I have already downloaded the emulators and resource kit. I was just
wondering if Microsoft was planning to update the current version of Visual
Studio to support the new modes from the .NET CF rather than P/Invoking the
new API. Or if we're going to have to wait for VS.NET 2005? =)

Regarding the NET CF and the new screen modes, I think what threw me off is that the Developer's Resource Kit is centered around eVC 4.0 and doesn't mention the CF at all. =

Flynn

Stirke that. I found the article in the All White Papers link

Yeah. It's buried in there all right. My eyes tend to glaze over when I read a lot of C/C++ code. I never really got the hang of the language, lol

Flynn,

Even though we have the possibility to make use of the emulators right now,
WM2003SE is still in beta. Of course when it is released it is still up to
the device manufacters to offer an update or not.

Hi, Maarten

Thanks for the article link. =) I'm hoping Dell will offer an upgrade for
the Axims (doesn't look like it so far) so I can have a real device to test
this on. =) BTW -- The emulators are a lot of fun to play with. I also
downloaded the Smart Phone SE templates but haven't had a chance to look at
those yet.
What I was looking for was integration of the new modes into the IDE --
i.e. form designer for VGA modes, being able to set orientation at the
project template level or at the form designer level. I'm thinking that will
have to wait for VS.NET 2005.

During MDC there was a possibility to get devices flashed, but with a beta
version of Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I got my brand new HP 4150 flashed at the
HP booth. After asking if I could get an official update after WM2003SE has
been released I got an answer that it is unknown yet if the update will be
available for all devices. It was definitely true that HP offered updates
for selected devices only (during MDC at least).

It's still in Beta? I was under the impression that people attending the
mobile conference in San Francisco were getting their devices (HP and Dell)
flashed with the new update. Of course, I don't know if it's just a rumour
or if it's true. But if it is true, it's odd that Dell would be flashing
devices at PDC while publicly saying that the update would only be available
(at this time) on future devices. From what I've read, HP is offering
updates for selected devices. Toshiba plans to release updates in May for
the e805, and in June for the e405.
Also, there's nothing in the SDK, documentation, or website that indicates
the SDK is a beta. Maybe I missed something? I'll go back and look. =)
But that's not really relevant to this discussion, heh. Thanks for the
information and the link to the article. =)
Flynn

PS - Please understand, I'm not upset at you, Microsoft, or Dell. Just
confused by all the information flying around. =D
