Hello,

I have a Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA that has been working very well. I recently
had to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium and now I cannot get it to
connect. I have updated the Mobile Center from the update on Microsofts web
site. It also, does not show up in Device Manager but Vista makes a "noise"
when the device is sitting in it's cradle. Further more Vista has not tryed
to install any drivers for it like it normally does on a fresh windows
install. here is what I have done so far.

1. Wiped the device.
2. tried a different sync cable.
3. tried using another computer (works)
4. tried uninstalling/reinstalling all USB Host Controllers, hubs, and roots
from device manager, restarted.
5. tried another USB port.
6. tested the USB ports with another USB device (works).

At this point I am not sure what else to try. Is there any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Gee that's too bad. I've got the same problem.

Call MS support and see if they don't tell you the same thing and tell you
to buy the more expensive and better Vista Ultimate.

Heh, I learned my lesson long ago about Microsoft Support. I won't call them
anymore unless it's to do activation over the phone. :-).

This URL is just to show that others are having this problem:

Maybe we can start a PDA protest "We want connected devices!" :-P.

If you find an answer before I do please post it for me. I am getting to the
point of reinstalling the OS again. I really don't wanna do that since there
is no garrenttee that, that will resolve it.

Quilnux, did you ever get help and resolve your problem. I am in the same
boat. When my PDA (TREO 799wx) plugs in my laptop signals that there was a
connection yet nothing shows up in "Safely Remove Hardware" or in the "Device
Manager". Running Vista Ultimate is not necessarily the answer, that is what
I am running. I've done all the things you talked about and am about to pull
all my hair out. I hope you did get some sort of fix for this. It is
driving me nuts.

Did you allow it in windows firewall?
