windows messenger

Every time I open my email, I get a dialog box about
Windows Messenger. "A newer version is available. You
msut install the neweer version in order to continue.
Would you like to do this now?" My choices are Yes or
No. I don't use Windows Messenger and want to get rid of
it and this message. How do I do it?

P.S. I'm a neophyte, in case you haven't noticed, but a
sincere one!
