I just installed a new 80 gb hard drive on my pc. The PC has winXP Pro with
512 mb DDR Ram.
I would like to stop Windows Messenger from starting or at least nagging me
when I boot up. I don't want to use it. I had rather use MSN Messenger
6.0.
I am assuming I have two options:
1. Disable windows messenger or
2. Stop windows messenger from coming on when I boot.

How do I both of these or can I?

Open up the Messenger and click on TOOLS/PREFERENCES and uncheck the box
that says 'Start Messenger when Windows comes up'.

Prevent "Windows Messenger" from automatically running

Jerry try this:
start
search, all files and folders
services.msc
open services.msc and scroll down to messenger:
Turn it off and disable it Both must be done.

Worked for me :)

Greetings --

And just what, pray tell, does disabling the messenger service
have to do with the Windows Messenger instant messaging application?
The two are completely unrelated.

Right you are Bruce. Thats exactly what I keep telling my brother Daryl and
my other brother Daryl.

Hello,

| start
| search, all files and folders
| services.msc
| open services.msc

It is quicker and easier to do it like so...

[Start]
| Run |
services.msc
[Enter]
