I inadvertenly added windows messenger to my computer,
HOW do I get rid of the damn thing, I don't want it, hate
being asked to add it and have no idea how it arrived in
my system. It's USELESS to me but annoying as hell.
Please help.

You can stop it loading in Outlook Express/Tools/Opetions/General/Unchck
Automatically Log On to Windows Messenger
If you totally disable it/get rid of it you wont be able to easily use
Remote Assistance.

Not even related to the OP's question. There's a vast difference
between Windows Messenger and the messenger service that Gibson's
utility is intended to disable (leaving the computer very unsecure,
btw.)

Modify the file C:\Windows\Inf\Sysoc.inf to remove the word "Hide"
from the pertinent Windows Components entries. Be sure to leave the
two surrounding commas in place. (Iow, change the line
"msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7" to read
"msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7") Save and exit Notepad.

Then click Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > windows
Components. You'll now be able to see Windows Messenger listed and
"uninstallable.".

Bruce,
You say Shoot the messenger leaves the system insecure.
I know GRC's program disables windows messenger but doesn't
do anything about that port being open. Is that what you are
referring to in, "leaving the computer unsecured" or are there other
problems with the utility?
