Is it possible to use other features than text (e.g., voice) of Windows
Messenger 4.7 for communicating from an xp pro client, in a Windows 2003
Server local network, to peers outside the local network.

Thanks,

Dan Kimhi

Greetings Dan,

The Operating System itself is fine, however if you're using ICS or RAS support within
Windows Server 2003, it does not support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), so you will be
unable to use some of the advanced features that require direct connections outside the local
network.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply.

Both the firewall and RAS services are enabled on the server.

My question concerns a xp pro client xp in the local network that is
hardware connected to the server (not through the RAS). Should such a client
be able to use voice communication with Messenger?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

If the client gets a public IP, then yes, voice should be able to work outside the local
network. Assuming however you're using the NAT within Windows Server, then no, as it doesn't
support UPnP.

However, voice within the local network should work fine.
