Windows Messenger vs MSN Messenger ?

What is the difference between Windows Messenger (which appears to be
integrated with XP and IE6) and MSN Messenger? I rec'd a notice from MSN
today saying that MSN Messenger6 was ready for download. BUT I use Windows
Messenger? Are they one in the same? IOWs will downloading and installing
MSN Messenger merely upgrade Windows Messenger? I notice the Windows
Messenger help | About window shows I'm using ver 4.7. In short I'm a bit
confused about the two. Any help for an XP newbie is appreciated.

Thanks,

They are different, and easily noted in the names!

No doubt, she'll justify it by saying that her spamming is for a good cause.
