Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger

Hi!

I had to reinstall Windows XP because of a HDD crash.
Still need to install Messenger, but I noticed there are two versions:
Windows Messenger (installable from Windows Update) and MSN Messenger.
What's the difference and which one is preferable?
