Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger

Well is there anyone out there who can tell me how to
download the required "Add-on" to enable me to read
emails etc with Windows Messenger without downloading MSN
Messenger 6. I had to re-install my XP Home Edition and
now every time I try to raed e-mails using Windows
Messenger it tells me to downlaod an add on - this just
gives the MSN Messenger site.
